The top player shouldn’t be that much of a surprise as it was the player the Buffalo Bills drafted first in the 2022 NFL Draft and also the one that likely has the best chance of being the starter when the team takes the field against the Los Angeles Rams.

Kaiir Elam was drafted 23rd overall by the Buffalo Bills after they traded up to select the cornerback from the University of Florida. He is the first cornerback drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the first round since Tre’Davious White, a player who also was in the starting lineup immediately as a rookie.

The reason that Elam is the rookie who will have the biggest impact is that he has a good chance of being a starter. At the very least, he will enter training camp competing with Dane Jackson for the starting job opposite White.

However, White is working his way back from a torn ACL suffered last year. While he is on track according to Sean McDermott, if he suffers any kind of setback or is not ready to start the year then it is likely Jackson and Elam who get the start at cornerback.

Among the rookies in this year’s draft class, Kaiir Elam would be the one player that it would be surprising if he didn’t start every game this year for the Buffalo Bills.
