Buffalo Bills sign nine undrafted free agents ahead of rookie minicamp

The Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp kicks off on Friday and before they took the practice field, the team announced the signing of nine undrafted free agents.

• Raheem Blackshear, RB (Virginia Tech)
• Travon Fuller, CB (Tulsa)
• Kingsley Jonathan, DE (Syracuse)
• Derek Kerstetter, G (Texas)
• Tanner Owen, T (Northwest Missouri State)
• Neil Pau’u, WR (BYU)
• Malik Williams, WR (Appalachian State)

The notable player in this group is Jalen Wydermyer out of Texas A&M. He was a productive tight end with the Aggies, particularly in the red zone and had 16 receiving touchdowns over three seasons. The Bills had a visit with him prior to the NFL Draft and was considered a potential Day 3 target.

The team ultimately decided not to draft him but was able to sign him after the NFL Draft and he is considered to be the player with the best chance to make the roster.

Raheem Blackshear is a player to watch during Buffalo Bills’ rookie minicamp

Another name to watch over this weekend is running back Raheem Blackshear as he is another player that fits within the theme of players the team looked for this year, as well as in previous seasons. That theme is versatility with the selections of James Cook and Khalil Shakir in the second and fifth round respectively.

Blackshear played five seasons at the college level with the first three seasons with Rutger and his last two at Virginia Tech. Over that stretch, he had 410 rushing attempts, 123 receptions and 3,125 total yards from scrimmage.

However, he also has experience as a returner with 37 career kickoff returns. The Buffalo Bills currently don’t have a clear answer to who is going to be returning kicks this year. If Blackshear can impress in this area of the game, there is a chance he could find his way onto the 53-man roster.
