Buffalo Bills reportedly add depth at tight end by signing Jalen Wydermyer

The Buffalo Bills reportedly sign tight end Jalen Wydermyer as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL Draft

One position that the Buffalo Bills certainly did a lot of work on leading up to the 2022 NFL Draft was at the tight end position. They had a number of Top 30 visits as well as private workouts with prospects.

The team ultimately did not draft a tight end over the seven rounds but the team did end up adding a tight end shortly after. According to Aaron Wilson with Pro Football Network, the Bills are reportedly signing Jalen Wydermyer out of Texas A&M.

The former Aggies’ tight end also appeared to confirm it on Twitter on Saturday night.

Jalen Wydermyer is a long-term project for the Buffalo Bills but has potential

In three seasons at Texas A&M, Jalen Wydermyer had 118 receptions, 1,468 receiving yards, and 16 receiving touchdowns. This past season he had a career high in receiving yards with 515 yards to go along with 40 receptions and four receiving touchdowns.

He is a player that has the size to play the position at 6’4″ and 255 pounds with good athleticism as a threat in the passing game.

However, the scouting report on NFL.com describes a player with a lot of areas for improvement from working on drops to improving his run blocking.

For the Buffalo Bills, it makes sense to add a tight end like Wydermyer because the team doesn’t really have a need at the position for this season. They have Dawson Knox and signed O.J. Howard as a free agent this offseason with Tommy Sweeney expected to be the third tight end.

However, after this season there are plenty of question marks as all three tight ends are set to be free agents. If Wydermyer is able to develop, most likely as a part of the practice squad, he could potentially earn one of those spots in 2023 and moving forward.
