Buffalo Bills Roster Need: Punter

Kickers and punters are not typically a priority in the NFL Draft and usually are signed as undrafted free agents. However, the Buffalo Bills have not been afraid to draft these positions, like when they selected Tyler Bass in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

When there aren’t glaring needs on this roster, and spots on the 53-man roster may be hard to come by, using a pick on a punter could make sense. Last year, the Bills added Matt Haack in free agency but his first year with the team was not good.

The Bills restructured his contract to essentially make it a one-year deal and set the table for an offseason battle with whoever they bring in. This year, Matt Araiza is the best punter in the NFL Draft and is good enough to warrant a team using a draft pick.

Last year, the Buffalo Bills lost two draft picks who were drafted on Day 3 to other teams so using it on someone like Matt Araiza could be the best use of the draft pick as he would have a great chance to not only make the roster but be a key contributor as a rookie.
