Buffalo Bills Negative: Questions at Middle Linebacker

When the Bills drafted Tremaine Edmunds in the first round in 2018, he was supposed to set them up at middle linebacker for the next decade. Now four years have passed, and Edmunds’s rookie deal is coming to an end.

The Bills have a serious decision to make with him as his play took a massive hit in 2021. Edmunds is just 23 years old despite being around for four years, so you could argue to keep him around. Still, he was a liability for this defense in 2021, and innovative organizations will not pump a ton of money into a liability.

This year, Edmunds allowed completions on 78% of his targets and often got pushed around in the run game. His two Pro Bowl appearances in past seasons could generate interest from other teams, leaving the Bills with a decision to make. The Bills have already committed long-term money into Matt Milano so an additional commitment to Edmunds would mean committing a lot of salary cap to a position group that hasn’t been a strength.
