Tight End (3)

Starter: Dawson Knox

Backup: Jacob Hollister, Tommy Sweeney

Cut: Nate Becker, Quinton Morris

While you could debate Dawson Knox and Jacob Hollister over the starting position both have looked solid in camp. While neither are star tight ends they have both shown the ability we all know they have. Tommy Sweeny has been a pleasant surprise considering he missed all last season from complications of COVID-19. His ability as a blocker is something that gives him a strong edge over Nate Becker and Quinton Morris.

Although Sweeney is no Lee Smith he gives Buffalo a really strong presence on the end who can block in short-yardage situations and also on running downs. Sweeney looks like he picked up right where he left off in 2019.

For now, Becker and Morris are outsiders looking in but both can easily be candidates for the practice squad spot. Morris is intriguing because he is a former wide receiver who transitioned to tight end so he fits the prototype of that athletic pass catcher so many teams are looking for at the tight end position.

The Buffalo Bills tight end situation is pretty easy to predict just based on performance this offseason but this is a position to watch in terms of Buffalo trying to improve. It would be a surprise if any quality veteran tight ends were cut by teams but do not be surprised if Brandon Beane looks around the league for potential trades especially if he can swing a player for player deal with someone he planned on cutting. Buffalo has tied to Zach Ertz all offseason and although that deal never went through Beane is still likely looking to improve the position.
