Davis Webb

There is no confusion as to who the Buffalo Bills plan to have under center Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Davis Webb certainly looked like he made a case to go into the season as the number two quarterback behind Josh Allen.

Webb took the majority of the snaps at quarterback and led the Bills’ only touchdown drive. He finished the game 11 for 16 for 90 yards and a score. He also proved capable, although against the second-team Detroit defense, of using his legs to pick up yards against man-coverage, a la Josh Allen.

Webb exhibited precision and proved competent running the Bills offense in his extended playing time. He certainly is ahead of second-year quarterback Jake Fromm, who suited up for the first time on Friday and led the game-winning drive.

Although Webb performed exceptionally well, it is not likely he’ll make the final roster if Buffalo decides to keep just two quarterbacks. As the preseason progresses, Bills fans should expect to see less of Webb and more of Mitch Trubisky in the coming games.
