Buffalo Bills: Aaron Rodgers speaks highly of wide receiver Jake Kumerow
Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers speaks highly of Buffalo Bills wide receiver Jake Kumerow.
The offseason drama between the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers came to an end this week as the two sides seemed to agree on a resolution that had the current MVP back in time for the start of training camp.
On Wednesday, Rodgers spoke with the media and one of the topics that came up was Jake Kumerow, who was released by the Packers during training camp last season. The Buffalo Bills were quick to sign him shortly after he was released and he spent most of the season with the team.
The release was certainly surprising, and it was news to the Packers’ starting quarterback, who still appears frustrated by it. During his press conference on Wednesday, he spoke about Kumerow and said he was the ‘second-best wide receiver in training camp’, according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.
While the Packers do have one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, Davante Adams, they have struggled to find that second option at the position. They had players like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard, and Equanimeous St. Brown who have shown flashes but haven’t been consistent contributors.
In 2019, Kumerow played in 14 games and started four for the Packers. He finished the season with 12 receptions on 21 targets for 219 yards with one receiving touchdown. When considering this stat line, it certainly was surprising to hear how highly Rodgers thinks of Kumerow. This past season with the Bills, Kumerow didn’t see the field much and in fact, had only one target.
However, he made the most with that target as it was a 22-yard reception that went for a touchdown.
Considering the Green Bay Packers appear to be trying to make moves to make Rodgers happy, like reportedly trading for Randall Cobb, it might be worth Brandon Beane picking up the phone to see what return the Buffalo Bills could get for Jake Kumerow.
