Siran Neal

The Buffalo Bills drafted Siran Neal 154th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was originally drafted as a safety, but he was converted to a nickel cornerback to back up starter Taron Johnson. In his three seasons with the Bills, Neal has played in 47 games, where he has recorded 60 combined tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.

Neal sees a majority of his snaps on special teams, as he saw just eleven percent of Buffalo’s defensive snaps. Neal’s rookie contract expires at the end of the 2021 season, and he is set to be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

Neal has been okay in the backup nickel corner role, but he has not played enough snaps to warrant the Bills bringing him back instead of replacing him with someone who is still on a rookie contract.

Under head coach Sean McDermott, the Bills have always done a solid job getting young corners ready to play when needed, so there is really no reason to think they won’t be able to do so again with a late round draft pick or undrafted free agent.

Neal will have to really impress the coaching staff in order to stick around with the Bills after 2021. He just does not have the numbers or upside to justify bringing him back on a contract that would likely cost more than his current $991,504 cap hit.
