The greatest Buffalo Bills players to don 31-50
The greatest Buffalo Bills player to wear #34:
Thurman Thomas is one of the players most people think about when they see the Buffalo Bills. One of the only three players to have his number retired by the Bills (the others are Jim Kelly & Bruce Smith), Thomas is one of the best to ever do it in NFL history. A member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Thomas torched defenses for over 11,000 yards while in Buffalo.
Thomas was one of the main reasons the passing game of the “K-Gun” was so effective. Thomas had a streak of 1,000-yard seasons from 1989 to 1996. Thomas was also in on the receiving game as well, adding over 4,000 yards over his career. Even though he forgot where his helmet was in the Super Bowl, Thomas is definitely one of the most legendary Bills players of all time.
His one year spent in Miami just didn’t look right and feel right, as Thomas would retire after that year (2000). There’s something about Oaklahoma State running backs, isn’t there? Another popular player to also wear number 34 was Cookie Gilchrist, a member of the AFL championship squads back in the 1960s.
