Buffalo Bills – Tennessee Titans (October 7th, 2018)

2018 was a disappointing one for the Buffalo Bills, but one that saw many entertaining games that ended in Buffalo losses. One of the entertaining games that resulted in a Buffalo win was the defensive battle in Week 5 between the Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills.

Josh Allen ran for a 14-yard touchdown to open the scoring in the first quarter. The Titans scored the next six points on two Ryan Succop field goals, making the score 7-6 entering halftime.

A 40 yard Stephen Hauschka field goal extended the Buffalo lead to four. Tennessee then repeated their first half efforts by scoring the next six points off of two more Ryan Succop field goals, putting Tennessee ahead 12-10 with 4:43 left in the game.

The Buffalo offense drove into Tennessee territory, setting up a game-winning 46-yard field goal from Hauschka. The Bills won the game 13-12.

This game was only Josh Allen’s 4th career start, and he was still clearly working out the kinks as a passer. He completed 10 of 19 passes for just 82 yards and an interception. LeSean McCoy carried the bulk of the load on offense for the Bills, rushing for 85 yards and catching two passes for 23 yards.

The Buffalo defense won them the game, holding Marcus Mariota to just 129 yards through the air and ten on the ground. Taron Johnson intercepted Mariota, while Jerry Hughes and Trent Murphy both sacked him.

This was an enjoyable game for those who prefer defensive football. While it certainly was not everyone’s cup of tea, this game was a fun battle of wills between two of the better defensive units in the NFL in 2018.
