Buffalo Bills-Green Bay Packers (December 14th, 2014)
The 2014 season was a fun one for Buffalo Bills fans, and it was arguably the best one they had in the playoff drought era. The Bills finished 9-7 and were in the heart of the playoff race until a bad Week 16 loss to the 2-12 Raiders.
The week before that loss, the Buffalo Bills kept their playoff hopes alive with a surprising upset over the 10-3 Green Bay Packers.
Mason Crosby opened the scoring with a 45-yard field goal to put the Packers up 3-0. Marcus Thigpen answered two and a half minutes later with a 75-yard punt return to move the Bills in front 7-3.
Eddie Lacy rushed for a touchdown early in the second quarter to give Green Bay a 10-7 lead. The Bills would score the next twelve points with four Dan Carpenter field goals, giving them a 19-10 lead with 9:23 left in the game.
A 34 yard Mason Crosby field goal brought the Packers back within six, but a safety forced by Nickell Robey-Coleman with 1:51 remaining sealed the upset win for the Bills.
The Bills stifled Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers completed just 17 of 42 passes, throwing two interceptions and finishing with a 34.3 quarterback rating. Bicarri Rambo was the one who twice intercepted Rodgers, adding onto a Mario Williams sack.
Bills quarterback Kyle Orton was not much better than Rodgers but managed the game well enough for the defense to win it.
This December showdown was a classic example of the cold Buffalo winters playing to the Bills’ advantage and is just as fun on the second viewing.
