Buffalo Bills 2021 Player Profile: Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky
There is a clear shift with the quarterback position when the Buffalo Bills sign a quarterback like Mitchell Trubisky to be the backup. Prior to Josh Allen, it wouldn’t have been surprising to see the Bills sign Trubisky but he would have likely been brought in to compete for the starting job.
This time though, this seemed to present a perfect match of needs for Trubisky and the Bills. The Bills get an experienced backup to replace Matt Barkley, who had been the backup for two years but wasn’t re-signed this offseason. As for Mitchell Trubisky, he gets a chance to ‘reset’ after a tumultuous start to his career with the Chicago Bears.

Expectations for the 2021 season with the Buffalo Bills
The expectations for Mitchell Trubisky are to be the backup for the Buffalo Bills but to step in if the need were to arise. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen because it means the Bills will be without Josh Allen, who is an MVP candidate and one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
However, the Bills now have a plan in that worst-case scenario with a quarterback who has shown he can play at a high level at times. Trusbisky would be playing with the best supporting cast of his career and with Brian Daboll calling the plays, he could get that ‘reset’ he was hoping for with the Bills.
In an ideal season, Mitchell Trubisky won’t see the field unless it is in blowout wins where the Buffalo Bills have the opportunity to rest starters. In an unpredictable sport like football though the team now has a great backup plan with the former second overall pick.
