Kickoff/Punt Returner – Who replaces Andre Roberts?

While a majority of the starters are back from last year’s team that made the AFC Championship Game, the one position that the Buffalo Bills coaching staff needs to find a new player is on special teams. The team has had one of the better returners in the league, Andre Roberts, the past two seasons but he left this offseason as a free agent and joined the Houston Texans.

This is an open competition for two positions, kickoff and punt returner, although ideally, the Bills would like to find one player who could serve in both roles. One player who could potentially serve that role is Isaiah McKenzie, who has been a gadget player for this offense but has experience as a returner. In the final regular season game, McKenzie got the opportunity to return punts and brought back one for a touchdown against the Miami Dolphins.

McKenzie isn’t the only player with experience though as the Bills signed free agent Brandon Powell, who has 19 career kickoff returns and 19 career punt returns. The team also drafted Marquez Stevenson in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft who is an explosive player with experience as a returner.

This is an often overlooked position but it will be important for the Buffalo Bills to find the best option to replace Andre Roberts. That is likely going to start this week at minicamp.
