Buffalo Bills: 4 potential moves to use cap space after Stefon Diggs deal
Trade for Akiem Hicks
The defensive tackle position is one that has a lot of players but also has a ton of questions. The biggest question starts with Star Lotulelei and what level he might be able to play at after opting out of this past season.
There is no question that the run defense suffered without Lotulelei in the middle and the Bills didn’t add any players to rotate with the veteran defensive tackle. This is why a trade for a player like Akiem Hicks might make sense for what this defense needs.
The Chicago Bears earlier this offseason granted Akiem Hicks permission to seek a trade however nothing has materialized over the past few months. However, the Buffalo Bills are close in terms of cap space to take on his $12 million cap hit this year. This would also be a low-risk deal as Hicks is under contract for only one more year.
The question will be if the Buffalo Bills would want to take on such a sizable cap hit and instead could hope Hicks is released by the Bears and then could go the route of signing him as a free agent.
The restructuring of Stefon Diggs at a minimum now makes a trade for Akiem Hicks a potential option to help upgrade the defensive tackle position for the Buffalo Bills.
