Buffalo Bills: 4 Positions of concern following the 2021 NFL Draft

Tight End

In addition to the Buffalo Bills’ need for receivers, there is a supplementary need for a solution at tight end.

The tight end position is shaping out to be one that is a point of emphasis for successful teams. Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Green Bay all have two things in common. The first is that they all made it to their respective conference championships. The second is that they all have true threats at the tight end position. Kansas City has Travis Kelce, Tampa Bay has Rob Gronkowski and Green Bay has Robert Tonyan.

To put it simply, the Bills have not gotten out of Dawson Knox what they believed they could. To his credit, Knox was not a pass-catcher at Ole Miss. While was there he only recorded a career 39 catches for 605 yards. On top of that, his first-ever touchdown came at the NFL level. Due to Knox’s inefficiency as a pass-catcher, the Bills brought in former Seattle Seahawk and Wyoming Cowboy, Jacob Hollister. While Hollister is an addition that can help the Bills in a pistol formation and in the red zone, he lacks that big-play ability that the previously mentioned teams get out of their big targets.

If Buffalo is not able to get Knox to take the step he and the team both desperately need him to take, they may need to address it in the offseason. Alen Wydermyer out of Texas A&M or Ohio State’s Jeremy Ruckert could be there in the draft for the Bills.

If they decide to go the free-agent route, names like Eric Ebron, C.J. Uzomah or Gerald Evertt could bolster the position. Lastly, there is still a possibility that Buffalo and Philadelphia can come to an agreement on a deal involving Zach Ertz.

In his Saturday press conference, Eagles general manager, Howie Roseman touched on where Ertz’s future is with the Eagles saying: “We think Zach’s a good player, a good person and he’s under contract“.

Roseman’s statement does not inject confidence in the notion that Ertz will be on the roster Week 1 which could mean Buffalo is still in play for the former three time Pro Bowler.
