Second Round (61st Overall): Asante Samuel Jr., CB (Florida State)
Amazingly in the second round, the top-rated player on the board is cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. out of Florida State. While the Buffalo Bills aren’t drafting for need they have now addressed what is two of their top needs on this roster.
The Bills have had a hole at the second cornerback position for a few seasons now and while they have gotten by, this may be the time to finally add a long-term answer at the position.
The question is if Asante Samuel Jr. would be the best fit in this defense. At Florida State, he primarily played outside but did so in man coverage, as Oliver Hodgkinson notes in his scouting report. Meanwhile, the Bills tend to play more zone, and considering he is 5’11” there are some questions about his ability to play outside in the NFL against bigger wide receivers.
These concerns may not be too much of an issue as the Buffalo Bills, according to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, have reportedly met with Asante Samuel Jr. and he could be a target for the team in the NFL Draft.
