Third Round (93rd Overall): Payton Turner, EDGE (Houston)

We are three for three in having the best player available potentially fill a need for the Buffalo Bills. The defensive end position is one that not only could use an upgrade but also some youth. The team’s starting defensive ends, Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison are in the latter part of their careers and coming off a season where they combined for only 9.5 sacks in the regular season.

This is why a player like Payton Turner would be an excellent fit for this defense. The former teammate of current Bills’ defensive tackle Ed Oliver, had two productive seasons with the University of Houston and had 8.5 sacks and 18.5 tackles for a loss over that stretch.

One of the reasons that Turner could be a great pick here is that in his scouting report on The Draft Network, Joe Marino notes that he may need some time to develop. This could allow the Bills to use Addison and Hughes while rotating Turner in as a rookie with the thought he could be the eventual replacement for one of the two veterans.
