Buffalo Bills: Ranking the 5 best free agent signings of 2021
Jacob Hollister
It is no secret that the Buffalo Bills tight end room did not produce in 2020 and is, arguably, the weakest area of the team’s offense. With Dawson Knox not developing into the pass-catching tight end the team planned on, they signed former Seattle Seahawk and Wyoming Cowboy, Jacob Hollister to a one-year, $1.127M contract.
Hollister is coming off a modest year with the Seattle Seahawks given his role in that offense. Recording for 25 receptions 209 yards and three touchdowns, Hollister is seen more as a redzone threat than he is a vertical one. The singing of Hollister was end result of the Bills’ search for a complementary tight end. After failing to land Zach Ertz from the Philidelphia Eagles, missing out on Hunter Henry among the other FA tight ends, Hollister was the next best option.
Through the 2020 season, Buffalo witnessed firsthand what a threat a tight end could be. Matching up with Kansas City’s Travis Kelce on more than one occasion was he able to accumulate chunks of yards that wore down Buffalo’s defense. With the signing of Hollister, the Bills get a weapon that is a genuine short-yardage threat. In addition to his ability to catch the ball, Hollister has previous experience playing with Josh Allen as the two were teammates during their time at Wyoming.
While he is not the long-term solution to the underperformance of the position group, Hollister will be able to add some consistency in the passing game where Knox has struggled.
