Round 6 – 211th overall

Interior Defensive Lineman Quinton Bohanna – Kentucky

Last but not least is the Buffalo Bills sixth round pick because I traded away the Bills seventh round pick to the Bears. The only area of need that I had not addressed in this mock draft was at the interior defensive line position. After not taking fan favorite Tyler Shelvin out of LSU on day two of this mock draft, I kind of pigeonholed myself into taking one late.

However, with Star Lotulelei set to come back for the Bills in 2021, I’m not too concerned about this position for this upcoming year. With that being said, it’s always smart to think a couple of steps ahead and Lotulelei isn’t getting any younger so it would be smart for the Bills to find his eventual successor in this draft. I did that by selecting Quinton Bohanna from Kentucky who is more than capable of playing the 1-tech run-stuffing role at the next level.

At 6’4″ and about 350 pounds, Bohanna is an absolute monster on the inside. He doesn’t provide much from a pass rushing perspective, but that isn’t what the Bills would be asking him to do. As a 1-tech, Bohanna would have to hold his own when being double-teamed in order to keep his linebackers clean and he showed that ability in the SEC. Additionally, Bohanna isn’t completely inadequate as a pass rusher. He had 20 quarterback hurries, 4 quarterback hits, and 2 sacks on 466 pass rush snaps.

In year one as a sixth round pick, Bohanna would be expected to learn from Lotulelei while also contributing as a rotational run stuffer. If he can do that in year one and show enough competence against the run, then that should merit the Buffalo Bills coaching staff to explore the possibility of Bohanna being the heir apparent to Lotulelei at 1-tech.
