The Buffalo Bills continue to have interest in offensive weapons despite their prowess on that side of the ball in 2020. The Bills could be taking a page out of the Chiefs’ book by making an already great offense elite by adding more talent whenever and wherever possible. According to Justin Melo of the Draft Network, the Buffalo Bills are interested in former UCLA Bruin Demetric Felton.
Felton has arguably the most versatility of any offensive prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft. He played wide receiver, running back, and returned kicks for the Bruins during his four years at UCLA.
Felton earned 958 total receiving yards and 8 touchdowns on 99 receptions during his collegiate career. He also earned 1,101 total rushing yards and 7 touchdowns on 233 career carries. On only 26 career kick returns, Felton earned a total of 611 return yards and had one return for a touchdown which averages 23.5 yards per kick return in his collegiate career.
At about 5’9 and 190 pounds, Felton can be a day one contributor from the slot in the Bills spread formations. Speed, elusiveness, and agility are staples of his game and should translate to the next level. Although his game may best translate to the NFL in the slot, Felton showed some ability as an outside receiver in the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Felton should provide similar value to that of Isaiah McKenzie on jet sweeps, screens, and reverses. His production as a ball carrier in college also indicates that he could be valuable on the Bills’ outside zone run schemes.
There is also a chance that he could be that 2-in-1 replacement for Isaiah McKenzie and Andre Roberts that I have been raving for the Bills to find in the draft all offseason. His 23.5 yards per kick return in college leaves a little something more to be desired, but it’s certainly a part of his game that can translate to the next level and should be explored by the Bills.
The fact that the Buffalo Bills have shown interest in Dazz Newsome, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, and Demetric Felton leads me to believe the Bills would like to save their money and move on from Roberts and McKenzie this offseason by drafting one of these three prospects.
