Buffalo Bills: Making the case for and against signing Kawann Short
Should the Buffalo Bills sign Kawann Short?
At the end of the day it is going to come down to money and what type of contract Short is looking for. The Buffalo Bills are going to have to make a decision on players like Vernon Butler and Quinton Jefferson, two defensive tackles they signed the last offseason who didn’t play at the level many expected.
One of the reasons the Bills may not want to release both is it means they have to incorporate even more new players on a defensive line that is likely to see a new defensive end or two. However, adding a player like Short doesn’t create that kind of learning curve that might come with other free agents.
The other positive of adding Kawann Short is he is more of a three-technique, which the Bills will need if releasing Quinton Jefferson. The addition of Short could give the team a veteran backup who can push Ed Oliver, who is entering a pivotal third year in the NFL.
If the Buffalo Bills are able to add Kawann Short on a low-cost one-year deal, this could give them even more cap space to address other positions without negatively impacting the depth they have at defensive tackle.
