Buffalo Bills: Top 3 takeaways for the defense from the 2020 NFL season
Respectable Coverage
While cornerback Tre’Davious White didn’t record the godly numbers that he did last year, White and the rest of the Buffalo Bills’ coverage had a solid year.
Tied for 11th in the league for interceptions (15), tied for 6th in yards-per-attempt (6.9) and fourth for passing touchdowns allowed, the unit performed. Providing timely pass breakups, interceptions and tackles, the secondary was there when need be.
While the unit did have their struggles against the “Hail Murray” pass for whatever reason, they were relatively reliable.
The issue for the secondary entering the offseason is what they will do at the corner position. Currently, Levi Wallace’s contract is set to expire, making him a restricted free agent. If Buffalo is not interested in matching the money that Wallace is offered, he will be free to sign with whoever he wants.
If that is the case, Buffalo will be down a starting cornerback. With Taron Johnson not showing the needed talent to be a man-to-man corner in the league thus far, Buffalo will have to look to improve the position in the draft or free agency.
Along with Wallace, cornerback Josh Norman’s time in Buffalo has expired as he was on a one-year ‘prove it’ deal which did not pan out he, nor the team would have liked.
