(Another) defensive statement

At the start of the season, the concern about the 2020 Bills’ defense was that it was not the 2019 defense.

2019 was extremely good to the Bills on the defensive side of the ball as they were touted as one of the best units in football. For the first few weeks of this season, the exact opposite was said.

Their inability to stop the run was a glaring issue that needed to be and was corrected. Their inability to generate any pass rush was a glaring issue that needed to be corrected and was corrected. It seems like every issue that fans had with this collection of players is a worry of the past.

Coming out on Sunday, many may have felt more comfortable with Buffalo’s chances matching up their defense with Pittsburgh’s offense. In recent weeks Big Ben and the mighty Steelers looked shaky. Failing to stay undefeated against the Washington Football Team made them more vulnerable, giving Buffalo more confidence that the mighty could fall again.

Whether it was seeing JuJu Smith-Schuster dancing on their logo while recording one of his many TikToks or knowing that Pittsburgh could be beaten, Buffalo’s defense showed up and showed out.

Generating stop after stop, turnovers, and touchdowns on the day, the narrative about the Buffalo Bills’ defense is completely different now. Arriving at the most pristine time, as playoffs are around the corner, if the defense can keep this level of play for a few more weeks, they’ll be rewarded with a handful of playoff wins.
