Tre’Davious White

The Buffalo Bills secondary has not been the dominating pass defense it was last year and it is due in part to Tre’Davious White not playing at an All-Pro level. The Bills top corner was regularly asked to face the opposing team’s best wide receiver and more times than not, he won.

That has not been the case this year as White has given up two touchdowns already this season, compared to zero last year, and quarterbacks’ passer rating targeting White has doubled to 90.5 from 43.3 last season, according to Pro Football Reference.

This was why many were concerned about the Bills being able to slow down D.K. Metcalf, who has broken out and is playing as good as anyone at the position. According to Mike Clay of ESPN, White was able to keep Metcalf to three receptions for 65 yards on four targets.

While at first glance, these numbers don’t look great but when considering who he was lining up across from, this was absolutely a win.

He also made a tremendous play with an interception late in the second half, setting the Bills up for a touchdown that pushed their lead to 21 points.

The Buffalo Bills still have a number of good wide receivers left on the schedule, like DeAndre Hopkins, Keenan Allen and DeVante Parker that they will need performances similar to this one that will put them in great positions to come away with wins.
