Red Zone Efficiency

While the Buffalo Bills offense has largely been improved, one area of potential concern has been their performance in the red zone. According to Team Rankings, the Buffalo Bills on the season are scoring touchdowns on trips to the red zone on 62.5%, which is 13th best in the NFL.

The reason it is a concern is recently over the last three weeks, that total has dropped to 45.45% which is the fifth-lowest total in the NFL.

One thing that has become clear this season is that the Buffalo Bills are going to have to likely outscore their opponents. The struggles on the defensive side of the ball mean there may be more shootouts than in past seasons.

If that is the case, it is going to be vital for the offense to convert these trips to the red zone with touchdowns and not settle for field goals. In Week 7, this was evident as they were facing a struggling New York Jets team but had to settle for six field goals. The fact they couldn’t punch it in resulted in a game that was much closer than it should have been.
