Buffalo Bills: Keys to victory and final score prediction for Week 1
Test and Attack the Jets Secondary
The last key to victory for the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 is to attack the depleted Jets secondary. Although they added cornerbacks Pierre Desir and Quincy Wilson this offseason, the Jets secondary will have similar difficulties to their offensive line in lack of continuity and playing experience together. This is exactly why the Buffalo Bills should test their communication skills by throwing early and often as well as giving them different looks in pre-snap motion.
As much as this is about the Jets weak secondary after the departure of Trumaine Johnson and Jamal Adams, it is just as much about seeing the Bills use newly added wide receiver, Stefon Diggs. Not to say John Brown wasn’t a capable number one wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills last year, but Diggs is a clear and obvious upgrade who should be able to bully weak secondaries when given the chance.
That is exactly what Bills fans should expect from the passing attack in this matchup. The ability to line up in 11 personnel with Diggs, Brown, Cole Beasley and Dawson Knox makes for a matchup nightmare for most opposing defenses, but especially this Jets defense without Mosley or Adams.
If the Bills can put the pressure on the Jets secondary by finding success in the passing game early, this will allow the Bills running game to open up with less pressure in the box. This gives running backs Devin Singletary and rookie Zack Moss the ability to grind down the game clock and hold possession for the Bills in the second half of this matchup.
