Opening drive touchdowns

Another area the Buffalo Bills struggled last year was scoring touchdowns on their opening drive. The Buffalo Bills only had one opening drive touchdown, which happened in Week 7 against Washington. When looking at the first quarter as a whole, the offense finished with only three touchdowns all season in the first quarter and none over the final eight games of the year.

One of the key things the Buffalo Bills should try to improve this coming season is getting an early lead against their opponent. When the Bills build an early lead, it allows them to play to their strengths.

A lead makes it easier for the defense and they can be a little more aggressive, hopefully forcing more turnovers and put pressure on the opposition. As for the offense, if they have a lead they can lean on their run game which is their strength. If they are able to run the ball more, they can control the clock and keep the defense on the sidelines.

While these are four stats that are not discussed frequently, if the Buffalo Bills can improve on them it should have significant impact on their performance this coming season.
