Buffalo Bills: DT Ed Oliver arrested for DWI, unlawfully carrying a weapon
On Saturday night, Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver was arrested for driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
According to the Montgomery County Police Reporter, Ed Oliver was pulled over shortly before 9 PM local time due to a 911 call when a motorist reported Oliver “was failing to maintain a lane and driving dangerously” through a construction zone.
After being pulled over, police noted that Oliver was driving with an open beer between his legs and a field sobriety test was conducted. They determined he was impaired and was transported for a mandatory blood draw.
The Montgomery County Sheriffs department also conducted a vehicle search where they discovered a pistol but did note that no drugs were found.

The Buffalo Bills did release a statement on Sunday morning stating: “We are aware of the situation and we are gathering more information. We will have no further comment at this point.”
This arrest for Ed Oliver will likely result in a suspension by the NFL at some point in the upcoming season. According to Matt Parrino of NYup.com, it is hard to predict exactly what that suspension might be. He notes that New York Jets tight end Chris Herndon was suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy from a DWI in 2018 that resulted in a two-car crash and property damage.
Ed Oliver was selected ninth overall by the Buffalo Bills and was expected to be a big part of this defense entering 2020. The former University of Houston defensive tackle had a strong finish to his rookie season with five sacks over a six game stretch, finishing the year starting seven games, 43 combined tackles, five tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles and one pass defended to go with the sacks.

Oliver made PFWA All-Rookie team and with the departure of Jordan Phillips looked to be in line to have a breakout season in 2020. He was recently mentioned as one of the top candidates among second-year players to breakout by Pro Football Focus.
