Buffalo Bills: Worst first round picks and who they could have had
2006 NFL Draft – John McCargo (26th overall)
Two years after the Bills traded back into the first round, they did it again but this time selected defensive tackle John McCargo out of North Carolina State. McCargo was actually the third player drafted from the Wolfpack’s defensive line, joining Mario Williams and Manny Lawson, who both eventually spent time with the Buffalo Bills.
McCargo only spent five seasons with the Buffalo Bills, appearing in 40 games over that time but only starting one. This is not what the organization expected when they moved back into the first to select him.
He finished with 52 career total tackles and 2.5 sacks. The Bills elected to not bring him back when his contract ended after the 2010 season. The lack of production combined with the fact that Kyle Williams, who was selected in the fifth round of the same draft had surpassed him on the depth chart.
