Buffalo Bills: Re-grading each pick from the 2018 NFL Draft
Austin Proehl
With the second last pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Bills selected wide receiver, Austin Proehl.
Now, Proehl is no longer on the Bills, and is the only player of the 2018 draft class to have been. He was cut by the team and picked up by the Tennessee Titans, just to be cut and signed again by the Los Angles Rams before, you guessed it, being cut again.
Amidst all the relocating Proehl did, he failed to appear in an NFL game.
Lucky for him, he was signed to an XFL contact with the Seattle Dragons and was considered one of the best in the league. He recorded 16 receptions for 225 yards before the league was forced to cease play due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Proehl was never given a chance to really show what he was capable of doing. On the XFL stage, we saw much of what he was like at North Carolina, a short-Julian Edelman-type receiver who was reliable on third-down and was never one to shy away from a hit. He was quick off the line but certainly did not have the explosiveness it takes to excel at the NFL level.
Proehl will be one of those players who certainly could have benefited from a year or two on an NFL practice roster but for now, he is considered a bust.
