Buffalo Bills: Re-grading each pick from the 2018 NFL Draft
Siran Neal
The Bills continued to address their secondary with back to back picks. This time, it was Siran Neal from Jacksonville State. During his senior year as a Gamecock, the Eufaula, Al., native appeared in 12 games, recording 39 total tackles and an interception.
Since being drafted, the cornerback has only started one game in the secondary, bouncing between safety and playing the big nickel role in this defense. In additon, Neal has found success as a coverage specialist within the teams put and kick units and was the team’s leading tackler on the unit in 2019.
It is going to be interesting to see how the Buffalo Bills coaching staff utilize Neal going forward and if they allow him to focus on one role. The addition to the coaching staff this offseason focusing on the nickel position, presents Neal with a great opportunity.
Buffalo didn’t really know what they had at the cornerback position following the 2017 season so the choice to select players in the secondary back-to-back is understandable. However, they could have used their fifth-round pick on a different area, such as their offensive line again.
