Buffalo Bills: Players who could sign contract extensions this offseason
Dion Dawkins
The 2017 NFL Draft class was pretty impressive for the Bills considering it was Sean McDermott’s first as head coach of the Bills and technically was Doug Whaley’s last. The question is how much say Whaley had in these selections because it is pretty impressive for a draft class to have three of their six picks be deserving of contract extensions.
Left tackle Dion Dawkins joins Tre’Davious White and Matt Milano in that group of players the Bills should extend this offseason. Dawkins was a second round pick of the Bills and he almost immediately stepped in to the starting lineup at left tackle.
He has now started 43 of 48 regular season games and has yet to miss a game over his first three years in the league. Aside from his play at left tackle, he has also shown he can contribute in the passing game with a touchdown reception in each of the past two seasons.
This past season Dawkins bounced back after a lackluster second year in the league and showed he is capable of being the long-term answer at the position. There shouldn’t be an hesitation on the part of the front office to work out a long-term deal with Dawkins.
