The NFL continues to be a passing league and it is important that teams have depth at the cornerback position. This past offseason, the Bills made a low-risk, high-reward type deal when they signed cornerback Kevin Johnson and it paid off this past season.

Kevin Johnson was a first round pick of the Houston Texans in the 2015 NFL Draft however injuries derailed his time with the Texans. Prior to this past season Johnson only had one 16 game season, which was his rookie year, and from 2016 to 2018 he played in only 17 combined games.

However, in his first season with the Bills he was able to remain healthy and played every game this season, including the playoff game against the Texans. He finished the year with 36 total tackles, five passes defended and one sack.

In addition to Johnson, the Bills will have to make a decision on Levi Wallace, who split time with Johnson this past year. The decision on Wallace seems pretty straight forward as he is a restricted free agent and would only become unrestricted if the Buffalo Bills didn’t tender him a contract offer, which seems unlikely.

It would make sense that the Bills bring back Johnson, on another short term deal, which wouldn’t necessarily restrict them from drafting, or even signing a free agent cornerback, but gives them experience and depth at the position.
