Buffalo Bills: Ramon Humber Brings Stability on Special Teams; LB Depth
By Ryan Brennan
The Buffalo Bills re-signed Ramon Humber last week and it’s a smart move in two areas — special teams and linebacker.
Last Thursday, the Buffalo Bills announced that they will be bringing back Ramon Humber next season. The 8-year veteran signed with the team last offseason a day after being released by the New England Patriots.
Humber has spent the majority of his career as a special teams player, but also adds depth at inside linebacker. He had a lot of history with Rob Ryan with the New Orleans Saints, which could’ve been a big reason he was brought in.
This year’s coaching staff seems to like what they saw from Humber, making him the Bills’ second unrestricted free agent to re-sign with the team. Of course, Colt Anderson was the first player — another key special teams player.
Last season, Ramon Humber played in all 16 games for the Buffalo Bills. He finished with 14 tackles and 12 tackles on special teams — tied for the most on the team with Jonathan Meeks and Lorenzo Alexander. In total, Humber played 366 snaps on special teams.
He added 60 snaps on the defensive end.

If the Buffalo Bills don’t decide to re-sign Zach Brown, then Humber could see a bigger role in 2017. Reggie Ragland will be returning from injury and Preston Brown will still be around, but Brandon Spikes is also set to become a free agent — making the inside linebacker position a big need this offseason.
Aside from his ability on special teams and as a linebacker, Ramon Humber brings 8 years of experience to the locker room. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts in 2009. Following a two-year stint with Indy, he spent five years with the New Orleans Saints.
During his stint with the Saints, Humber accumulated 124 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 4 passes defensed and 5 stuffs. He added 32 tackles and one forced fumble in 2009 with the Colts.
So far, I’m happy with the two players the Buffalo Bills have brought back this offseason. No one is expecting any big names to be announced this early, so this is a good way to start the offseason.
