It was Week 10 of the 2001 season that the Seahawks and Buffalo Bills last had a close game, this one decided by three points.

The Buffalo Bills had only won one game when they entered Week 10 in 2001 vs. the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately, their struggles continued and lost a close game that ended 23-20.

The Bills would finish that season just 3-13, so be happy that we aren’t in any position to repeat that this season.

Once again, the ageless wonders Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander were manning the Seahawks’ offense, while the Buffalo Bills were joined by Alex Van Pelt, Travis Henry, Peerless Price, Eric Moulds and Antoine Winfield.

The first half of this game stayed even, with the Seattle Seahawks starting off the scoring with a 40-yard field goal by Rian Lindell — familiar face? The Seahawks would respond in the second quarter with a 7-yard passing touchdown from Matt Hasselbeck to Koren Robinson, giving Seattle a 10-0 lead.

The Buffalo Bills would enjoy a 10-0 run themselves to finish the first half, thanks to a 16-yard passing touchdown from Van Pelt to Peerless Price and a 25-yard field by Jake Arians. The game was tied at halftime.

Each team would score in the third quarter, but the Seahawks would score a one-yard rushing TD by Shaun Alexander and the Bills were limited to a 26-yard field goal by Arians.

Two field goals by the Seahawks in the fourth quarter gave them a 23-13 lead with 3 minutes remaining in the game. Jay Riemersma would connect with Alex Van Pelt for a 6-yard passing touchdown with a little over two minutes remaining, putting the Bills down 3 with enough time left.

Unfortunately, they wouldn’t be able to overcome the deficit as the Seahawks would go on to win 23-20.

Alex Van Pelt finished with a nice game, throwing for 316 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. However, just 69 rushing yards would make it tough to compete against a team that ran over 100 yards thanks to 93 yards from Shaun Alexander.

After going through the last four matchups between these two teams, both teams have come away with 2 wins. Our last matchup of this slide dates back to 2000 and will decide who will take home all the marbles — in regards to their last five meetings.
