Lorenzo Alexander continues his productive and aggressive 2016 campaign with the Buffalo Bills. He tallied three sacks on Case Keenum on Sunday.

Coming into this game, Von Miller of the Denver Broncos was the top-MVP candidate through the first quarter of the 2016 season.

After Week 5, that statute should be handed over to Buffalo Bills‘ linebacker Lorenzo Alexander.

I recently wrote an article praising Jerry Hughes, who found his name on that same list as Von Miller, although Hughes was listed as a Special Mention for the MVP race. In my article, I demanded that both Zach Brown and Lorenzo Alexander be added to that race.

Alexander proved me right with his performance vs. the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. He was on his way to a solid game, but just seemed to get more vicious as the game went on and finished the game with 7 tackles (7 solo), 3 sacks and one pass deflection.

Coming into Week 5, Von Miller was the sack leader in the NFL with 5.5. After Markus Golden of the Arizona Cardinals recorded 2 sacks on Thursday, he surpassed Miller with 6 sacks on the season. However, Miller re-claimed his place atop the rankings with a sack of his own on Sunday, bringing Miller’s total to 6.5.

Don’t sleep on Lorenzo Alexander, though. He entered this week with 4 sacks already — tied with teammate Jerry Hughes — and with his 3 sacks vs. the Rams, his total on the season now sits at 7. Yes, that means he is the new NFL sack leader this season. We still have the Sunday night and Monday night games, but he has a pretty comfortable cushion over anyone in those games.

We all need to give this man a big round of applause. Hell, a standing ovation — kind of like the one we gave Zach Brown when he won the Week 4 AFC Defensive Player of the Week award. Don’t forget, he is also having a great season sitting atop the league in tackles heading into the game vs. the Rams.

I’m going to say this now, too. That way we aren’t all surprised next week. The Bills will host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6. The 49ers allowed Blaine Gabbert to get sacked 7 times by the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday. I hear a sack party coming up on Sunday and we are all invited.

Look for Alexander to add to his lead among the league’s best pass rushers.

Congrats to Lorenzo Alexander and a big thank you to the Buffalo Bills for bringing home a third-straight victory.

Kudos.
