Sammy Watkins has been out of commission for a good amount of time. Is his return finally here?
Good news for Buffalo Bills fans — and Tyrod Taylor — arrived when rumors began to swirl surrounding Sammy Watkins’ injury. There has been a lot of “ifs” and “maybes” regarding the wide-receiver’s foot, but it seems as though we finally have an answer on his return.
For those who don’t remember, we first learned about his broken foot in May when the team announced Sammy Watkins had surgery in April. At that time, his return was targeted for the start of training camp. Optimism arose when Watkins confirmed his training camp status nearing the end of June.
However, things started to change as training camp drew closer. The team was most likely just taking it slow with him, since foot injuries are very dangerous for wide-receivers. When it came time to take the conditioning test when camp began, he passed it successfully — though he remained on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list.
Since then, Watkins has been focusing on completing his rehab process and has mainly just been running in straight lines on the field.
Well, good news. Rumors have started to surface regarding a return, which seems to be set for August 8th. Although that’s later than expected and almost two weeks into training camp, it’s a good sign to see a timetable. It means he is progressing well. At the same time, it’s important for the personnel to examine him fully and not rush him back.

The Buffalo Bills will finish training camp on August 22nd, so he still has a good amount of time to shake off the rust and at least retrieve the chemistry he had with Tyrod Taylor.
They begin their first pre-season game on August 13th against the Indianapolis Colts, so the goal is to get him warmed up for a few days and give him some reps early in pre-season — again, remembering that the team isn’t going to rush him back if they don’t feel he is ready.
