C.J. Spiller and Scott Chandler Strike Deals

Two former Buffalo Bills have officially signed with separate squads on Friday afternoon.

After what seemed like a controversial start to the offseason between C.J. Spiller and the Buffalo organization, Spiller officially signed a four-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. The news was first reported by Adam Schefter with Ian Rapoport weighing in shortly afterwards.

It’s going to be a much easier task for Spiller to find a home in the bayou than it will to find a home in the crowded backfield that now consists of him, Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson. He certainly adds another dimension into their rushing attack but won’t be considered a featured back like he wants to be. It’ll be much of the same as was his role in Buffalo, sharing carries with Fred Jackson for the past five seasons.

Like Spiller, another former Bills found a new home but will stay within the division. Scott Chandler signed a deal with the New England Patriots and will face his former team twice a year.

Chandler will be entering his ninth season in the NFL after having short stints with the San Diego Chargers, New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys in 2007, 2009 and 2010, respectively. He’ll be another option for Tom Brady especially in the red-zone. Throughout his career, the 6-7 tight end out of the University of Iowa has 17 career touchdown catches.
