David Harris Re-Signed With New York Jets

In a move earlier today, the New York Jets re-signed LB David Harris to a 3 year 21.5 million dollar deal.  Harris was able to get the first 2 years guaranteed, so 15 million is a good payday for him.  For the New York Jets, this was a steep price for a veteran linebacker.

"PFT has learned, via a league source, that the team has re-signed linebacker David Harris to a three-year deal worth a total of $21.5 million. Harris got the first two years of the deal fully guaranteed at $15 million.– PFT.com"

With David Harris being re-signed by the Jets, the Rex Ryan Harris reunion might have to wait, if it is to happen at all. It won’t be happening this year, unless a trade happenes between the two teams.  But for that money, the Buffalo Bills might as well just sign Jerry Hughes to a 7 million per year deal and be over with the option of the DE hitting the free agent market.

With David Harris heading back to the Jets, the Buffalo Bills have Preston Brown, Nigel Bradham, Ty Powell and Randall Johnson, that are currently on the roster.  Brandon Spikes is a free agent and is looking for starter money.  Jerry Hughes, if signed is the one that might be back in a two point stance but Mario Williams has been rumored to be in that position at OLB as well.  Of the other LB that are mentioned and on the roster, there are only 2 real starters, which means that if a 3-4 is to be run, another LB will have to be brought in from somewhere.

There are still LBs out on the free agent market, which is set to open on March 10th, to include Brandon Spikes, A.J. Hawk, Sam Acho, Brooks Reed, Sean Weatherspoon and Jason Worilds.  So there are other options on the market for the Buffalo Bills to find an option, if they are looking for one, at the linebacker position but a reunion with Ryan and Harris would have been one of the better fits for this defense.

At 7.5 million a year, the New York Jets can keep him and his 15 million guaranteed for the first 2 years.
