As other players are being tagged or not tagged and let to roam free agency as they please, the Denver Broncos have made a decision that could directly effect the Buffalo Bills and their direction beginning on March 10th, 2015.
The Denver Broncos have decided to franchise tag Demaryius Thomas and bring the Wide Receiver back for at least another year. With this decision, it states that the Denver Broncos will not franchise tag Tight End Julius Thomas and will allow him to test out free agency.
There are a number of teams that are out there that will be interested in Julius Thomas’ services and the Buffalo Bills are one of them. With adding a high profile tight end to the offensive mix, the Buffalo Bills will instantly be a more difficult team to plan against on the offensive side of the ball.
The one thing that could attract Julius Thomas to Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills is a stable quarterback. Without a quarterback at this point, there may be some potential free agents that the Buffalo Bills will miss out on, because there is no guarantee that there will be a dependable quarterback to get some of these guys the ball.
The Buffalo Bills could bring in someone quickly and make a case to upgrade their tight end position and even bring in a veteran wide receiver too, but I think without a quarterback that is set and ready to go, and with this team strictly relying on EJ Manuel to fuel their free agent signal fire, the fire is not going to be very big to attract really anyone at this point.
We now know that Julius Thomas is a definite to be available come March 10th, will Charles Clay be available as well? Will there be an early run on top tight ends when free agency opens?
Another dependent figure on bringing in a higher profile tight end than that of Scott Chandler and company, is whether or not the Buffalo Bills are able to secure a long term deal with Jerry Hughes. If a Franchise tag is used, there may not be enough available cap to bring in a TE and a QB or at least the ones, that the Buffalo Bills have their eyes on.
