Alan Branch was and charged with DWI early Saturday morning. The Bills released Branch later that day. They have reported that the drunken driving was not the reason why the released him but it was performance based. Branch had come to the Bills last year and played well, well enough to get a contract extension for 3 years with a 3.1 million signing bonus. That all went down the drain when he couldn’t initially pass his physical and then didn’t perform in training camp. [WGR 550]
The Bills will play their final preseason game tomorrow against the Detroit Lions. The game, however, has been blacked out and one congressman is none to happy about it. Brian Higgins, who has voiced his disappointment with the FCC and the NFL rules for blacking games out has again put out a statement concerning this policy. The president of the FCC recently visited Buffalo and stands with Higgins that this is a policy that should no longer be on the books. [Niagara-Wheatfield Publications]
The Buffalo Bills moved their offensive line around when Cordy Glenn got back from his undisclosed injury. With Glenn coming back, Seantrel Henderson, 7th round pick, was displaced, but only for a second. Henderson played very well to earn a spot on this offensive line and beat out Cyrus Kouandjio, the 2nd round pick, to play right tackle. [WGR 550]
Buffalo released Dustin Hopkins on Monday in their bid to get the team down to 75. They also released Thad Lewis to make room for Jordan Palmer and placed Kiko Alonso on season ending Injured Reserve. With this move, it freed up a spot that allowed the Bills to claim Jordan Gay off waivers to compete as a punter/kick off specialist. [Syracuse.com]
