Here’s a look at what our Buffalo Bills are saying about the Tyrod Taylor extension that was signed a few days ago.

It’s been a while since the Buffalo Bills had a quarterback to feel good about. After Tyrod Taylor‘s performance last season, many fans were eager to push for a long-term deal, while others wanted to see a little more from the quarterback.

More from Bills Rumors

When the Bills announced that they reached an agreement with Taylor, they put every fan’s wish in consideration and came out with a genius deal that gives Tyrod Taylor the money he is looking for, but also protects the team if he doesn’t live up to his expectations.

Ultimately, Tyrod Taylor will be making more money this year than he originally was. After this season, there is a team option that if the Bills accept, would make him a whopping $27 million next season. If the team option is picked up, he would then have a 5-year contract with the Bills — although it could get cut short if he doesn’t do as well as expected.

This deal has made the Bills happy, as well as Tyrod Taylor and the fans. Now, Tyrod, as well as Taylor’s teammates, coaches and team officials are starting to open up about the deal.

LeSean McCoy shared his excitement, “Anytime you get your quarterback to lock in and be the guy for this franchise, it’s special. Especially a guy like Tyrod Taylor, we need him here. He’s done the right things with the contract and taking care of us, so we’re happy in this offense. Looking for a big year.”

Eric Wood, who spends a lot of time on the field with Taylor, said “We’re really excited for Ty. It’s a contract he deserves and I’m really excited for him,” said Wood. “It doesn’t change the way I feel about him, but you know I am extremely glad that we got him long term.”

When asked why they wanted to get the deal done now, Bills’ GM Doug Whaley stated:

“Well from day one we always said that we wanted to get a deal done that would be beneficial to the player as well as to the organization. And what we’ve seen from the offseason and in camp leads us to have strong feelings and belief that Tyrod Taylor is the guy that can help us go to where we want to go and reach the heights we want to reach.”

Whaley continued:

“We looked at it as we have a quarterback now. I hate to say it, but lack of a better term, we didn’t want to be greedy. We like working with Tyrod. We have faith in Tyrod. The coaching staff has faith in Tyrod. But most importantly, the team has faith in Tyrod and Tyrod has faith in himself. So, we said let’s go with what we have on hand and we’re excited about the future.”

Most of all, Taylor was probably the most motivated about getting this deal done:

“I was very excited. Something that I worked hard for in my years in the NFL. Something that I always dreamed of as a kid, so to see the hard work definitely pay off, you know there’s still hard work to be done. But to be rewarded is definitely a blessing and I’m definitely grateful.”

He also weighed in on whether this affects his mindset heading into the season:

“I would like to say definitely thankful for the Pegula’s, for the Bills organization, and for Rex giving me an opportunity, first and foremost. Them offering me a contract for this many years definitely shows that they’re all in, that’s what our phrase is for this year. As far as a mindset going to a game, having financial stability or not having it, I mean I’m a competitor from day one, so I’m going to go out there and give my all whether I’m under contract or not. I guess it makes it, I guess I can speak in terms of it being done now. I’m not going to say that it puts the ease off my mind but it’s definitely refreshing to know that the deal is done.”
