BLD Polls: What Grade do you Give Buffalo’s 2011 Draft?

AUTHOR: | IN: BLD Polls, Draft, Rookies | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Now that the Bills have made their nine selections, what grade would you give Buffalo for its 2011 draft? Personally, I’d give Buddy Nix and Bills front office a solid B for this effort. The Bills’ most glaring weakness – rush defense -was certainly addressed with the first three picks. The rest of the draft was full of smart, rugged guys  who can provide some depth. Nicely done. However, the fact that Buffalo didn’t add a single real pass-rusher or a tight end is a bit of head-scratcher.

Bills Make Bethel (TN) Lineman Michael Jasper Their Final 2011 Draft Selection

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rookies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Bills have made Michael Jasper, an ENORMOUS lineman from Bethel University (Tenn.) of the NAIA, their final selection in the 2011 Draft. If Jasper is anything, it is big – he is listed at 6-4 and an enormous 395 pounds. Jasper is listed as an offensive lineman in some places, but appears to have been drafted as a defensive lineman. Maybe he can fill the nose tackle role in the 3-4? Jasper’s a bit of a mystery man at the moment. If nothing else, it should be fun to follow Jasper at camp. If he’s athletic at all, he’s [...]

Bills Select Richmond CB Justin Rogers in 7th Round

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rookies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Many Bills fans complain that Buffalo takes way too many defensive backs each year in the draft…this won’t help. Buffalo has selected Richmond cornerback Justin Rogers in the 7th round of the 2011 edition of the draft with the 206th overall pick. Rogers has plenty of positives for a 7th-round selection. His cover skills are decent enough for this stage in the draft, and he has all the intelligence and football smarts one could hope for. His speed is also right where you would want for a corner. Rogers could also contribute on special teams right away. The downside to Rogers [...]

Todd McShay Loves Johnny White

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rookies | COMMENTS: None Yet

At least one NFL Draft expert loves the Bills’ fifth-round pick. ESPN’s Todd McShay considers Johnny White among the biggest sleepers in the entire 2011 draft class. Read on after the jump to see his thoughts:

Bills Select Mississippi St. LB Chris White in 6th Round

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rookies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Bills continued to add reinforcements to their league-worst run defense in the 2011 NFL Draft by selecting Mississippi State inside linebacker Chris White with the 169th pick. White’s a hitter. No doubt about that. He racked up 110 tackles (including 15.5 for loss) with six sacks in his senior season at MSU. He certainly fits the mold of the type of player Buddy Nix has picked in this draft: rugged, hard-working guys who were very productive against high-level competition in college. As with any player drafted this late, White has some limitations. He’s fairly fast in a straight line [...]

Bills Pick North Carolina RB Johnny White in 5th Round

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rookies, Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well, I didn’t see that coming. Buffalo surprisingly went running back early in the fifth round, taking North Carolina’s Johnny White with the 133rd overall pick. It’s pretty clear the Bills are going with the “best player available” approach, as running back certainly wasn’t a big need with Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller on the board. There’s a good chance that White was the top ranked player on the Bills’ board at the time of the pick, as White was pretty high on a lot of board. Scouts Inc. had White ranked as their #6 RB and 85th-ranked player overall, [...]

Buffalo Selects Clemson OT Chris Hairston with Second 4th-Round Selection

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Rookies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Bills have finally taken an offensive player in the 2011 draft, using the #122 pick to select Clemson OT Chris Hairston. Hairston was a three-year starter for the Tigers at left tackle. He certainly has the size of an NFL tackle: 6’6”, 326 pounds. He’s got a solid work ethic: he wasn’t really recruited out of high school but came on strong at Clemson, winning their strength training award in 2010. While he was a left tackle in college, I think that he projects as a right tackle in the NFL. He’s not a fantastic athlete, but has shown [...]
