With the draft getting closer and closer, speculation will get greater and greater as to whom the Bills are leaning towards with the 3rd overall pick. As much as I’d like to get myself really excited with the news of Champ Bailey’s extension in Denver and how LSU CB Patrick Peterson will still be on the board for us, I’ve already accepted the fact that he probably won’t be the pick come April. After reading into it (albeit excessively), all the signs point to us identifying Texas A&M product Von Miller as our first choice in 2011.
Wait, Where Would O.J. Atogwe Fit In?
WGR reported today that not only is former Colt Bob Sanders visiting, but former St. Louis Ram O.J. Atogwe is as well. Sanders makes a lot of sense with the departure of Donte Whitner appearing to be closing in on “imminent” status. I feel that Bob could be an even better fit in the 3-4 than in the Cover Two scheme he previously played in, a point I’ve been beating to death in previous posts this week. Atogwe has played free safety in St.Louis, however. At 5-11 205, he’s not ideally built to be an in-the-box defender. He’s best when [...]
Quick Thoughts on Bills’ Offseason
Even though I have been totally immersed into my Chicago Bulls and their current 3rd place standing in the East (behind the despised Miami Heat and Boston Celtics), I have also been keeping tabs on my beloved Bills and have some thoughts on what’s been going on at One Bills Drive. Including some of the best news I have heard in quite some time on the team…
Bob Sanders is Visiting Tuesday
I just posted last night that if my guy Donte Whitner doesn’t want to play here any more, Bob Sanders would be a viable option. Well, Buddy Nix and Co. look like they are willing to win the staring contest with Tom Condon (Donte’s representation) because they are bringing in the game-changing, yet injury-prone Sanders in for a visit. I’d still like Whitner to return, but if that’s not an option I like Sanders a lot as a player and a person. I would support him coming here.
How Important is the Wonderlic?
The Wonderlic test is an aptitude test that all the NFL prospects take at the combine. It is out of 50 points and has both inflated and deflated draft stock. There are 50 questions and the players have 12 minutes to answer all of them. A score of 10 is considered “literate.” Here’s a sample question: A train travels 20 feet every 1/5 of a second. How many feet can it travel in three seconds? I try not to look too much into it, but sometimes a really terrible score really can’t be completely ignored. I wanted to dive into [...]
If Donte walks, how does Bob Sanders fit?
With the Donte Whitner contract situation appearing to be headed in the wrong direction, there may be an opening at strong safety. Bryan Scott is a good run defender and is effective when playing in the box. However, he’s only average in coverage and can be exposed. I view him more as a solid backup that can be a playmaker in short-yardage situations. For those reasons, the Bills should be in the market for an upgrade if Whitner and the Bills cannot hammer out a new extension.
New helmet update?
On Aaron Maybin’s website shop, one of the available items is a signed white helmet (Joe Ferguson style). This could be a hint towards what the new helmet will be. Here’s the link: http://www.aaronmaybin.com/shop-2/
My 2010 NFL Draft Class Re-visited…
For those of you that aren’t aware with my love for the NFL Draft, every season I spend 7-8 months scouting for the draft and grade the players. Then, when draft day rolls along, I not only analyze what the Bills did, but I make picks when the Bills do. Since this is going to be my first draft at Buffalowdown, I figured I would fill the readers in on my last draft class. 9th overall: OT Bryan Bulaga, Iowa
