The conference championship games have arrived in the NFL, which are two of the last three remaining games of the season. The Buffalo Bills were so close to getting the chance to play today, but they couldn’t overcome the Denver Broncos in overtime, losing 33-30 and being sent in a wild direction within the organization.
Buffalo is in the middle of their head coaching search, and it’s going to lead to a lot of speculation and questions with the roster moving forward. The roster for the Bills has been severely questioned and that’s why people were wondering why just McDermott and not Brandon Beane was fired.
For the roster portion, the Bills have had players on their roster in recent memory that are playing in today’s conference title games in both the AFC and NFC.
Bills have 6 former players playing in today's conference championship games
In the AFC matchup between the Broncos and Patriots, Buffalo has 4 former players that will be suiting up. Former wideout Elijah Moore, who was signed and released by the Bills in the same calendar year signed with the Broncos’ practice squad. He hasn’t been on the field for Denver, but now may get his chance to contribute.
As for New England, there are 3 former players; Wideouts Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins (who was activated off of IR) and cornerback Alex Austin. Diggs played a key role for New England’s first matchup against Buffalo that gave the Bills their first loss of the season back in Week 5. Hollins has been a great run-blocker on the outside who can make contested catches.
Austin didn’t play with the Bills despite being drafted to them, but has played some snaps for New England over his tenure there.
In the NFC title game between the Rams and Seahawks, the Bills will see two former players on the field for the Rams. Defensive tackle Poona Ford, who the Bills did not utilize properly when in Buffalo, and offensive tackle David Quessenberry who was with the Bills as an extra blocker on the line.
Since leaving Buffalo, Ford has been a solid player which shows that he was not used right for the Bills. Considering the fact that Buffalo couldn’t stop the run this season, having Ford in the middle would have really helped them out.
Championship weekend kicks off in Denver at 3PM EST and then the NFC title game will be at 6:30PM EST. Bills fans wish that they were the ones that would have the chance to see Buffalo try and advance to the Super Bowl, but instead, they are looking for a new head coach. It’s a setup that not a lot of people thought Buffalo would be in at this moment.
