As we get closer to this Sunday night football matchup, the weather may be in the Buffalo Bills’ favor. Meteorologists are calling for heavy snowfall on Sunday, which could impact the San Francisco 49ers offense. If that’s the case, we could see them transition into a run-first football team, as the weather, plus Purdy’s shoulder injury, could hinder their passing offense. Where could each team turn to in order to win this ever-important game? With the AFC East on the line, the Bills need to come out with a win.
Both teams have a lengthy injury report, and on the 49ers' side, it doesn’t look too promising with Brock Purdy, Nick Bosa, Deommodore Lenoir, and Trent Williams all listed with injuries (Bosa, Lenoir and Williams have been ruled out). On Buffalo’s side, it’s a bit more promising, with only Dalton Kincaid missing practice and Keon Coleman listed as limited. They should be getting several players back from injury, including the possibility of DeWayne Carter and Matt Milano playing this week.
Spencer Brown vs Leonard Floyd
With Nick Bosa set to miss this week's game, all eyes turn to the former Bill, Leonard Floyd. He was a big part of Buffalo’s successful pass rush last year, and he hasn’t missed a beat with his new team, totaling 6.5 sacks on the season. Keeping Floyd out of the backfield has to be the priority of this offensive line. If Bosa can’t go Sunday, Floyd is the only true threat to sack Josh Allen.
Jauan Jennings vs Taron Johnson
Another slot matchup, and it involves two very talented playmakers again. Jauan Jennings has arguably been the 49ers best receiver this season, as he’s totaled 628 yards and four touchdowns on 47 receptions. With Brandon Aiyuk out for the year, and Deebo Samuel non-existent up until now, there are not a lot of pass catchers the Bills secondary has to worry about. Jennings and George Kittle are the only two to produce as of late and should be getting a good amount of the focus. Johnson has had a very good season, allowing just 22 receptions for 263 yards and two touchdowns, along with two interceptions, per PlayerProfiler.
