Three San Francisco 49ers that should worry Bills fans this Sunday
Things are a bit murky in San Francisco. The Niners have lost their last two games, the most recent being a 38-10 drubbing at the hands of the Green Bay Packers. In that game the 49ers were without QB Brock Purdy, LT Trent Williams and DE Nick Bosa; three of their most important pieces.
With some question marks still looming around player availability, we’re going to highlight three players that Bills’ fans should be concerned about.
DE Leonard Floyd
The former Bill makes his return to Highmark Stadium after an impactful 2023 season with Buffalo. Floyd was a key pickup for the Bills last season, totalling 10.5 sacks in 17 games. This season has been more of the same for Floyd. In his 11 games thus far, he has racked up 6.5 sacks, three of which have come in the last two games. He has also accounted for 19 pressures and 14 total QB hits. Dion Dawkins will have his hands full on Sunday night, and if Floyd continues his hot streak, Josh Allen may be dealing with a messy pocket all night.
TE George Kittle
While the Bills have been solid against opposing tight ends this season, the 49ers rely heavily on Kittle. They move him around in the formation and they disguise him well in pass block vs route play calls. Kittle has had four or more catches in all but one game this season and is averaging 71 yards per game. The biggest threat is Kittle’s ability to gain yards after the catch. The Bills have been susceptible to the explosive play this season, and with Kittle averaging 13.1 YPC, Bills’ fans should be concerned about the ability to contain the All-Pro TE.
RB Christian McCaffrey
It’s impossible to talk about the 49ers without mentioning the impact of a healthy CMC. This will be his fourth game back from injury so as he gets back into a rhythm, it’s crucial that the Bills have a gameplan for the All-Pro running back. In his two games back with Brock Purdy at QB (excludes last week), McCaffrey has eclipsed 100 total yards. He is a game breaker, and if the Bills defense can't keep a lid on him, it’s going to be a long night in Orchard Park.
The 49ers have been serious Super Bowl contenders for the last few years, so this is no easy task. Don’t let the spread fool you, this is shaping up to be a tight matchup. With the Niners dealing with some injuries and the forecast calling for snow Sunday night, this could end up being a very different game than anticipated. Despite all of that, if Bills’ fans are hoping for win number ten, they better be keeping a close eye on these key players Sunday night.
