As the Buffalo Bills enter a downtime in the off-season right before training camp, Buffalo’s decision-makers will reset and see who are trade candidates. The Bills will have some tough decisions to make in months to come, and we may see them trade away one or two players. Who could they be? Let’s take a look at several trade candidates on the Bills roster who could net them a solid return.
Three Bills players who could be somewhere else in 2025
QB Mitch Trubisky
Trubisky is in his second stint with the Bills, signing a two-year/$5.2M deal last off-season. Trading Trubisky would save the Bills $2.5M in cap space, according to Spotrac. The Bills don’t generally give backup quarterbacks too much money, so this signing surprised many people.
With quarterback Mike White on the roster, the Bills could trade Trubisky without batting an eye and keep White as the primary backup. If Buffalo decides to trade Trubisky, it may not happen until training camp or later, but for now, he’s a name to watch in the coming months.
DE AJ Epenesa
Part of the Bills’ rebuilding process on their defensive line could be trading away AJ Epenesa, their former second-round draft pick. After signing a two-year/$12M deal to return to the Bills last off-season, Epenesa finished the season with 39 tackles, six sacks, two forced fumbles, and 11 quarterback hits.
If the Bills look to trade Epenesa, the team would save $6.2M while creating $1.2M in dead cap, according to Spotrac. With rookie Landon Jackson in the building now, along with second-year pass rusher Javon Solomon, the Bills may look to save a little bit of money and gain an extra draft pick. We saw the team do this a couple of years ago when they traded Carlos Basham to the New York Giants.
DT DeWayne Carter
The Bills made a focus this off-season to get better up front, and they sure did. Adding Deone Walker and TJ Sanders through the draft, and Larry Ogunjobi in free agency, the Bills all of a sudden have very good depth on the defensive line, unlike recent years.
However, that means some people may become expendable, like last year’s draft pick, DeWayne Carter. Carter’s rookie season was one to forget, playing in 11 games and totaling 14 tackles and five tackles for loss.
With all of Buffalo’s recent acquisitions, there doesn’t seem to be a spot on this roster for the former third-round draft pick. Trading Carter would save Buffalo $1M in cap space, according to Spotrac.
