When training camp and the preseason are concluded right before Week 1, each NFL team has to make tough roster decisions and decide who will and who will not be on the final roster going into the regular season.

The Buffalo Bills have built such a great winning culture and so many players want to be part of it, but that’s just simply not possible. At the end of the day, roster spots are limited and the front office has to evaluate everyone to see who the best players are to make a run at the Super Bowl.

There is one Bills veteran player who has become an important factor in helping the Bills become who they are now, but logistically, he could be released before the start of the 2025 season. Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones has been with the Bills since 2022 and he could very well be entering his last season with the Bills (assuming that he even makes the final 53-man roster).

DT DaQuan Jones could be on the roster bubble ahead of Bills training camp

Jones is entering the final year of his contract with the Bills and according to overthecap.com, the Bills can save $5.5 million by releasing him. Due to the fact that Buffalo traded up twice in the NFL Draft to select T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker, the Bills have a lot of young talent to pair with Ed Oliver and DeWayne Carter.

Not to mention, the Bills also signed Larry Ogunjobi in free agency. However, he is set to be suspended for the first six games of the season so that could ultimately save Jones a roster spot for this upcoming season. At the same time, the Bills can only take so many players onto the roster and if the rookies impress early, Jones could very well be in roster trouble.

Again, I don’t believe that Jones will be released but he is a serious cut candidate just based on the logistics. Since the Bills are at the bottom of the league in terms of camp space, releasing Jones would help them financially but they should only make that move if they are super confident in the young guys.
